The third annual Pacifico Ford Liberty Strongman Classic will serve as host of the third and final leg of the American Strongman Corporation (ASC) national qualifiers on June 30 & July 1 at the Lagoon Hotel and Entertainment complex in Essington, PA and at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium, home of the Wilmington Blue Rocks minor league baseball team.

The action gets underway at the Lagoon Friday night at 8 p.m. when over 20 ASC professionals will vie for the final five spots in this year's ASC Nationals scheduled for July 20 in Columbia, SC and the right to move on to the IFSA World Championships scheduled for the fall of 2006.

Once again, four-time "World Strongest Man" champion Magnus Ver Magnusson will serve as head referee.

Expected to compete in the qualifier, which is open to all ASC professionals, will be two-time IFSA-USA champion Steve Kirit, defending IFSA-USA champion Van Hatfield, long-time pro Jon Andersen, IFSA World finalist Travis Ortmayer and long-time pro and local favorite Walt Gogola, who was an All-Inquirer offensive lineman for Archbishop Wood.

There are a total of six events with three events Friday night in the Water Front Arena of the Lagoon (admission is $5, must be 21 years of age):

Mighty Muffler Tire Deadlift for reps (700 pounds) The Mustang Expediting Conan’s Wheel (800 pounds) Akylm Roofing & Siding Log Lift for reps (305 pounds)

Saturday’s competition gets underway at noon with two more events, both at the Lagoon. There will be a car show featuring new vehicles from Videon Chrysler, David Dodge and Pacifico Ford.

In addition there will be exhibitors and an outdoor barbecue. The event is free and open to all ages.

Saturday night we head to Wilmington Delaware for the sixth and final event. We compete after the Blue Rocks game (and before the fireworks) at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium in front of an expected crowd of over 7,000 fans (for ticket information call 1-800-888-BLUE (2583).

The Atlas Stones Challenge (up to 400 pounds)

The purse is $10,000 in cash plus other prizes. Sponsors include:
